Paintings for Lynlee

I finished these paintings a while ago...a few months before Lynlee was born. I am not sure why I nevr put them up...I guess life got busy with a baby:).

So I painted the 4 block paintings that say "baby". I also made the airplane mobile. Her name below is a vinyl cut out from my cricut and the animal picture is a gift from my cousin. I felt a little silly when i showed these paintings to my sister and she wasn't that impressed. You see she thought that I had taped off the background and used some sort of stencil for the letters. That would have saved me a ton of time, to be honest. And when she mentioned that, I felt very foolish because I had drawn and painted each of the paintings and all of the lines by hand. So needless to say, these paintings took me quite a bit more time to do than they should have.

the last post of July

I promise that I had very good intentions of painting beautiful scenery and landscapes while I spent the last week with my family in the mountains, but like I said before, I was in vacation mode and making no promises. So, as much as I sort of wish that I could now thrill you with a series of from-life paintings that I completed from the last week, I didn't even so much as pick up a paintbrush. I did take several sets of watercolors, brushes and paper up so that I could give my family priceless lessons taught by none other than yours truely, but that didn't even happen. Actually, scratch that. I DID paint. Nothing breathtaking, but something, and that will be coming soon...

Anyway, enough of that. I do have something that I painted today :). It is the last of my fruit/veggie series and it may be my favorite.

So I think that I am getting looser and looser with these vegitable paintings...They are all supposed to go together in a set of 5. We'll see if it works.

I know that this might look familiar, but don't worry, this is technically a new painting...because I just finished it. It has been waiting for me for about a year, but now I can finally say that it's done.

I challenged myself on this one to only put the paint where it belonged. I mean that in several ways. On the canvas, not my clothes. And where it needed to be in the drawing, not somewhere else. As simple as that sounds, it is a constant challenge for me. I think that is what I like about painting. The challenge. And no. I didn't get any on my clothes. Small victory? Yes.

p.s. Not that anyone else probably noticed this but me but this is my 6th post this year. Last year (2009) I had 6 posts. That was it. I can already tell this is going to be a good year.

Emily and Elizabeth, oil, 18"x18"

I learned many years ago with this painting, that I don't have to love everything that I paint. Sometimes I just need to finish it and move on. That can be exptrememly difficult when the painting you are working on is not only for someone, but a family member. To say that I have been "working on" this painting for 4 years would defiantly not be true, but it has been sitting in the back of several closets, following me around that long and it is good to be able to move on. For some reason I had a very hard time with this painting. I don't love it and I know that there are things I could change, but the painting would still be pretty much the same. I think it will be good for me to move on.

With that said, I hope that my sister enjoys this painting, as it is the last of her 4 children and the only one that I had not yet painted. It can now hang with the others as a complete set and that makes me so happy. I love you Elizabeth! I am sorry this took me so long!
